When Roses Speak, I Pay Attention

"As long as we are able to

be extravagant we will be

hugely and damply

extravagant. Then we will drop

foil by foil to the ground. This

is our unalterable task, and we do it

joyfully."

And they went on. "Listen,

the heart-shackles are not, as you think,

death, illness, pain,

unrequited hope, not loneliness, but

lassitude, rue, vainglory, fear, anxiety,

selfishness."

Their fragrance all the while rising

from their blind bodies, making me

spin with joy.

Oh my Cheryl, you are really rocking the still life images on this one. The dreamy white tones are so beautiful! The gentle softness of the roses is stunning....life soft whipped frosting. I love every one of the different backgrounds and how each one is a fresh point of view. Excellent triptych!! xx

It's hard to choose just one as all three shots are beautiful...Isn't it fun changing the background and seeing that it completely changes the image.....

I did a white rose too, though I was so lazy and didn't mess with backdrops and all the other nice touches that you added!

They are all beautiful, but my fav is the linen background. There's something special about white on white photography the really draws me in.

Oliver's words and your beautiful images are a perfect pairing, Cheryl. Love the soft swirls of those petals, so lovely and delicate with the baby's breath.

Cheryl, I hadn't read this poem by Mary Oliver, and I thank you for including it in your post. Such beautiful words, so powerful in imagery, and so hopeful, too. I would love to spin with joy! Your rose photographs are perfect - and I do wonder how you would choose your favorite!
